I actually watched this anime when I was 6 or 7, but I believe it was discontinued after a few episodes for whatever reason. After waiting 20 + years, they've finally decided to make the anime again. The art style is VERY close to the manga style, hats off to them for doing that. However, a lot of things have been cut short and removed. I suppose this genre isn't attractive to people who aren't familiar with the "yokai" thing and some monsters from myths. I've read the manga and it is definitely 10x better than the anime, but it doesn't mean the anime isn't good. It's just that a lot of things have been cut short and the characters lack depth because of that. You don't grow as attached to the female characters (They play a crucial role in Ushio's development) because they usually appear for only a few episodes max throughout one season. I almost cried while watching episode 29! > . < I have also read other mangas written by the same author. He is not a super famous author or artist, but his work usually really dark and has many twists. There is more fan service in manga lol....
